If you’ve noticed your shadow smiling when you aren’t, or if your dog has started performing tricks you never taught him, Chip O’Gamma is here to tell you to stop worrying and start waving. “Double Exposure” is a surrealist pop jingle that tackles the total breakdown of linear reality with the same enthusiasm Chip uses to sell canned air.
The Déjà Vu Economy
In this track, the laws of physics aren’t breaking; they’re just “rebranding.” Chip describes a world where you can “pay your rent in déjà vu” and pass yourself on the street without a second thought. It’s a terrifying look at the instability of the Sector 8 timeline—where the sun sets twice before it dawns and milk comes from “cows long gone.”
While a normal person might find a blinking mirror or a backward clock grounds for a mental breakdown, Chip frames it as a “glitch” in an otherwise “neat” system. He normalizes the feeling of being “split into two,” suggesting that if the world feels blurred, the polite thing to do is just “smile and wave, and act like you heard.”
Someone Else’s Fire
There is a darker undercurrent here in the line: “Like someone else lit my internal fire.” It hints at the loss of agency that comes with the “Blink, Rewind, Replay” lifestyle. Chip is essentially the spokesperson for a simulation that is starting to fray at the edges. He’s telling you that even if you aren’t the one making your choices, you should still enjoy the ride. After all, if the news repeats with a missing frame, that’s just seven more seconds of “Broadcast Delay” to enjoy!
DOUBLE EXPOSURE
by: Chip O’Gamma
They say I stood in that hallway twice
Waved to myself and I looked real nice
The toast popped up but the jam was gone
And the dog knew tricks I’d never taught
The mirror blinked before I did
My shadow smiled, then slid and hid
The clock ran backward at half past two
I paid my rent in déjà vu
I blink rewind replay repeat
Nothings wrong but nothings neat
If I wave and wave back too
Its just my world split into two
The car’s still parked where I didn’t leave it
A stranger waved like we share a secret
I dreamed in fonts I’ve never seen
Woke up humming a future scene
The news repeats with a missing frame
Same folks new names but the outcomes the same
I crossed a street Id crossed before
Then passed myself outside my door
I blink rewind replay repeat
Nothings wrong but nothings neat
If I wave and wave back too
Its just my world split into two
A knock at the door but nobody came
My picture’s changed but the dates the same
Each choice I make hums like a wire
Like someone else lit my internal fire
The milk was fresh from a cow long gone
The sun set twice before it dawned
So if the world seems flipped or blurred
Just smile and wave, and act like you heard
I blink rewind replay repeat
Nothings wrong but nothings neat
If I wave and wave back too
Its just my world split into two
I blink rewind replay repeat
Nothings wrong but nothings neat
If I wave and wave back too
Its just my world split into two
